Hot, Hot, Hot, Hotel!

A quick note after a long day:

Mark and I have been riding through the heat the past couple days, but today we were especially exhausted in the 100 degree temperature (it’s also very humid). Today, our ride was mostly flat, which meant we were able to travel quite a ways—190 km—but the flat road, open desert and sprawling agriculture made the sweltering road feel endless. We didn’t talk much for the exhaustion of the heat, and without much to see, we only only stopped when we could get water or food.

As the afternoon turned toward evening we figured we’d be able to make it to a little town called Los Pocitas, where we planned to get water and then ride a few more miles to camp, hoping that the evening would turn a more tolerable temperature.

We stopped at a convenience store to buy ice cream and a quick google search revealed a real surprise, a hotel in this town for only 250 mxn!

The only google review of the hotel provided the location of the building and said to get the key from the llantera (tire shop/mechanic across the street). We headed to the llantera and before we could even finish asking, a man was showing us across the street to the room.

We were surprised by the accommodations! We have paid for two other cheep motel rooms in Mexico, and this one, despite being the cheapest, is definitely the nicest. We showered and then ate dinner at a restaurant nearby where we enjoyed some conversation with another customer. The luxury of having a room, shower, and an easy place to stay the night feels truly glorious after such a long, challenging day on the bike!
