The Tandem Gets a Third Seat

More problems posting! Originally written for publishing on April 5th.

After 6.5 months of traveling just the two of us, Mark and I are being joined by one of our close friends. We did not actually get a third seat, but instead, Noël packed up her bike and flew in from Colorado to join us for the last month of our trip. Yesterday we met her at the bus station in Mendoza and today we’ll start riding.

We are really excited to have some new energy, since we have still been battling the post-dengue lethargy. The last few days of riding to get to Mendoza proved quite challenging for us, mentally and physically as we discovered how not recovered we were. But beyond the new life she is bringing to our trip, we are just glad to see our friend.

The trip, of course, is going to change quite a bit now that it is not just Mark and I. Trips like this are made up of lots of daily decisions, and having another person in the mix for all of those means that our day to day will look and feel different. Mark and I are marking this as the end of “our” trip and the start of a new one with Noël.

Thanks for reading! -Nic

At this point I think it’s fair to say that we are the ones doing the keeping up, since our bike broke and we had to hitch a ride back to town!
